i once saw a painting of a bird tied to a string, that had some coloured pencils attatched to it. The bird had had flapped intself to death, and in doing so, had flown round and round this nail that held it tied down. the coloured pencils left a perfect and perfectly colourful circle.
and i knew i had to paint that.
and then came the pandemic, and we were locked in for so long, that we almost didnt trust it when we were out again. the paranoia and anxiety kicked into overdrive... "is everything really ok?" 
and all the freedom and beauty we saw upon coming outside, felt cruelly forced into submission. so desperate to get back to our sense of normality.
